Quills dont take much to sink at all, can rig em upside down as well and that will help.

How so ?? My mind says that if 1/16oz of weight will pull a quill under, it wouldn't matter if it was rigged sideways .... it would still pull it under

Wont do it, if the white part (normally) is turned over toward the bait them it wont sink as easy. That is where the hollow part is and the floatation. The other way, with the white sticking up it goes under very easy. My grandfather showed me this years ago, very rarely fished any other way. This was with true quills to not this reproduction stuff to mimic a quill.
    try it and you'll see.

I'll have to let Spawn do the testing on that theory, as I do not have/use quills as floats.

Still don't seem to be possible, since the dynamics of the position of the quill should not affect it's floatation capacity. So, I'll take your word for it.

The larger quills ( 12 inches or so ) will do much better than the smaller ones if you are using for crappie/bass . The smaller the minnow the better .i use them mainly bream fishing and use dental rubberbands to hold the line to the quill . Run the line through the eye, then the band, then put quill tip through the band . Add hook with a small split shot above hook about 6-8 inches .

Sure love those quills for Bream , but they will not support much weight.
