My expert opinion would be better classified as opinion (without the "expert")...

Sure looks likes it could be the thermocline...

It would have been neat to lower a temp probe down thru that layer and note if there was a big change in the temps...

Thanks Rickie, Did you ever hear of a PH probe to read Oxygen? have you ever used one ,if so how about a link? I read about it the last week or so and it sounded interesting, I would like to hear your thoughts.

    Thanks Wilbur.

We have PH probes at work that read PH and temp but I haven't heard of one that reads O2...

    That would be interesting tho....

Wilbur .... the old style Combo-C-Lector would read color/pH/temp, but nothing I've seen has a oxygen meter in the mix. There's also straight pH meters w/probe ... but, they'll only read pH. There is such a thing as the pH-cline ... used to hear about it back in my Bassin' days. Same deal as a thermocline, but was the layer of water where the pH made the biggest/quickest change ... rather than the water's temperature.
The only thing I've found the depthfinder (surface) temp readings good for ... is to know the highest temp of the water I'm in, considering that the water below the surface is most likely cooler, the deeper you go. That only works for early Spring to Late Fall (which is when I normally fish) ... and would be the opposite (lowest temp) in the Winter. And, of course, when the "turnover" occurs ... the water temps mix & equal out, so it's not a useful factor at that time.

I figured, a long time ago, that if I spent the necessary time to drop probes to test for what color to use, what the pH was, what the o2 level was, adjusted my depthfinder to read where the thermocline was .... and then figure all that into useful information about where the fish were most likely to be ..... they'd already changed their pattern banghead and I'd have to start all over again Rofl (meanwhile, my partner would be and probably catching some fish .... and not necessarily when/where all that info said they should be  )

I wish that I could find a new one of the old Combo-C-Lectors! I used one years ago and had a lot of fun playing around with it. Used to fish a small deep clear lake.
