    Default 07/06/2012 - Sacramento - Crappie

Started fishing around 7pm the bite was on! A lot of "silver flashes" where popping up all over. I did not see any minnows mainly the Crappie where biting/feeding on insects. Lots of action hit after hit, bite after bite. Average size was 4inch - 6 inches.

Targeted 6 different areas about 300 yards - 600 yards apart. Kept all the ones larger than 6 inches. Landed a total of 5 "keepers" = 7-8 inches in size.

    Stopped fishing around 11pm

Good times in the summer time :-)

I lived in Sacramento for 33 years. Fished all over growing up. Sutter Bypass, Verona Slough, some sloughs out passed Pocket Rd across Sac River, a slough out in Knights Landing that comes off the Sac River, Lake Amandor, Clear Lake. For military reasons we're in Louisiana at least for the next month and a half, then we'll be headed to Ft. Lewis, Wa. All my family is in Sacramento, so I'll be doing some fishing out there again. Another place I've done good fishing is in West Sac (Port of Sacramento). I'm sure going to miss the Crappie out here, cuz you don't catch many that small out here. I'm a kayak fisherman, so I'm kinda excited to get my yak in some of them sloughs I used to fish. Heck maybe we could get together and catch some slabs one time.

I'm in Ar. and was just curious, is that normal size crappie there? Average size here depends on the lake you are fishing but most people throw them back if they are less than 10". I have been guilty of keeping an 8 incher or two on a slow day but i think i would have to move if that's all that was around! WTG for your diligence.
