    Default trolling crankbaits for crappie

I fish Kansas and Missouri for the most part. I was thinking about trying trolling the bandits and or other cranks this summer.

Can i troll with my trolling motor or should i use my big motor?

    What speed?

How deep of water to start in?

How much line do i put out?

Do you troll open water or by or above timber?

Am I crazy to even start this trolling thing?

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks in advance

Go to the Mississippi main board and click on the sticky threads at the top. There is a 1274 reply thread about pulling cranks. Basically all the info you will need. Good luck.

Can i troll with my trolling motor or should i use my big motor? either, i prefer trolling motor tho

What speed? what the fish like, normally 1.3-2.1

How deep of water to start in? i normally start anywhere from 9-15 fow, but each lake is different, but a bandit 200 will run 8-12, 300 will run 10-16

How much line do i put out? there is a depth chart floating around here somewhere, how much line out determines how deep your running them, not speed

Do you troll open water or by or above timber? try to stay away from timber, but rather fish creek/river ledges.. mainly looking for suspended crappie

Am I crazy to even start this trolling thing? if you dont wanna become an addict, then yes you are crazy! This stuff is very addicting!

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

    Thanks in advance

It's addictive AND expensive! The latter part is why I dont pull 'em.

Just go for it, it is a fun way to catch fish. And the cost is a one time thing as far as gear, other than the bandits. It is a good way to cover a lot of water fast, and you find things on the depth finder you didnt know were there. The MS board is the place to go and a great read. Good luck, start small and build it up if you like it.

Buy the BnM videos with Kent Driscoll. He is one of the best cranking guys there is!!!! He is a great fisherman, using any technique.

I use my trolling motor. I may pull anywhere between 1.5 to 2 MPH.
And, yes you are crazy to start this. I have had to quit drinking Crown and dipping snuff just so I can afford to pull crank baits.
