    Default Reborn crappie fisherman question

I used to fish a ton growing up. I"m only 26 now but haven't done serious crappie fishing in 7 or 8 years due to schooling and being a newlywed.

Well it's now time to be back. I live in Oklahoma and fish in a lot of water that's not greatly clear.

I hear a lot about these YUM lures. Beavertail and Curly tail. I was wondering if these are available at a local Wal-Mart or if they need to be special ordered. I used to just like using a basic white curly tail cheap plastic lure and even just the old fashioned fuzzy lures. My wife is going to use minnows.

Also wanted to know what colors I should use in the murkyish water. Chartreuse, White, what?

I'll be fishing under a bridge (From the bank) at a good crappie lake this weekend (yeah it's muddy water too) and want to catch a mess to get my wife hooked so we can fish a lot more.

Any help here? Thanks a ton...!

If your limited to the bank and just fishing the piers or pilings. I would go with minnows or jig tipped with one on a slip cork rig. Trying to spark an interest in your wife under those (muddy water) conditions might not be a good idea. The bites may be few and far in between, but i hope ya get a bunch...izzy

heard a couple weeks ago (which I know is a lot of time in fishing terms) somebody fished the bridge and caught a pretty good load.

If it's dirty bird, the guy was using minnows.

    Yeah it's dirtybird.

So should we just stick to minnows? Or should I try out the YUM lures?

adacrappieman, I have bought my YUM Beavertails and curlytails from Wal Mart, K mart (aka) Big K, and eBay. Also try Bass Pro Shop, I'm not sure about Cabela's.
    I have been using 1 1/2 inch and 2 inch. in Pumpkinseed/Chartreuse, 3/16 - 1/8 round head.
Old stand by are the old fuzzy grub/ lures too. White, Yellow, Chartreuse,
Get out and have some fun. Enjoy the time with your wife too.
