    Default mud motors

Anybody use a mud motor on their fishing boats here? Looking at em for shallow water river running but I'm the fella that can only have one boat so im curious how they work out in normal lake fishing.

Do not have one but buddy of mine has one on duck boat. They work fine, there just not that fast. By the way if your talking about a rocky river get jet drive

    Default Jet boat motors

I ran a 40 hp Evinrude jet pump from about 1991 until I wore it completely out 2 years ago. The whole rig-boat, motor and trailer were a dishrag when I finally got rid of them. Great motors, on plane draw about 3 inches of water. Won't run in heavy leaf cover for about 1 week in the fall. On our rivers here in South east Missouri you don't go without a jet. You can still hit stuff but not much stuff. You do lose some power but you can get some huge jet motors to compensate. If you run shallow you should run a jet. I miss my jet a lot.

Yea u are right, but in Louisiana we don't have rocky bottoms. I was referring to muddy shallows!

I've thought about getting one for dads boat. I think a surface drive would be better for me and where I would use one. Looks like you would have a little better maneuverability over a long tail, and some have reverse.

They work in the right location,BUT , are very noisy. I had a 2 stroke jet the was noisy, but I think a mud motor is worse IMO

I have a 36 hp Pro Drive and I've had it for 4 years, wouldn't have anything else. Had two bass boats when I got it and sold both. Haven't been to a mechanic since I got it, I do all the work myself, it's easy to work on and I've been able to do all the work myself. It runs about 26 to 27 mph with me and my fishing load and with a partner it will run about 25mph, which is fast enough. I fish every where anyone else does and a lot of places that most can't and 12 mpg verses 2 to 4 mpg is a blessing this day and time. And no water pump, I have cranked it at home and let it idle to the launch so it would be warmed up when I get there (about 6 miles), you should see peoples faces when they pull up next to it at a red light.
