    Default Yum Beaver Tails

I know we've talked about these in the past, but I have to comment on them as well.

I have always used jigs, and minnows when jigs wouldn't work. I started using the 2" beaver tails in various colors and between my fishing partner and I, we have caught over fifteen hundred crappie since February on them. We haven't been fishing any baited holes, just all the likely places. We had one one day (10 hours) that we boated 450 crappie between the two of us. Give them a try before the new wears off.

I agree about these lures. I read about them here and tried them, they work. I have also used the 1 1/2 inch size, they work good too. YUM also makes the same type lure with a curltail, same results, it catches fish. One morning I caught crappie, redear, bluegill, trout and a bass on the same beavertail. This is ione of my new lures I like.

What size and type of hooks are you rigging these with??

    Are you just vertical jigging?

The Yum Beavertail is currently my confidence bait and more so than the curly tail. I routinely use a 3/8's oz on the Beavetails tightlining jigging with tandem jigs using a 1/4 oz jig on the upper usually with a Pan Assasin with both jigs tipped with nibbles. Not sure what the hook size is on the 3/8's oz jig.

Thanks for the reply, but let me ask another stupid question.

Are you saying you are using a regular crappie jig? I haven't seen the 2" beaver tail, but my impression was it was too fat for a crappie jig.

I appreciate any education. I have just ordered some of the Yum Beaver tails (black w/ pink tail).

I am using a 3/16, 1/8 round head jig. I don't know the hook size. With the YUM beavertails I haven't tipped any yet. Seems to work just fine.

    Thanks.

    Do you tightline or bobber?

Just fish it like any other jig??

Just the round head jigs, some painted and some not. Just tightlining no bobbers.

Also as to it being too large for a crappie jig -- its not. In the winter time I have had crappie in the livewell spit up 4 inch shad and larger. The mouth on a 14 to 16 inch crappie is quit large.

My attitude about using a larger bait is that I might not catch as many but the ones I do catch tend to be larger fish but at times I've unhooked many rather small crappie that has bitten the larger bait.

    Thanks again.

I know crappie eat larger than 2" shad. I was more concerned about the hook set (small hook, large bait), but I'm gonna try it!

    Thanks for the education.

The only knock on these baits is that they are very soft. You may have to glue them on as most bait holders will split them. I now use a ball type head with no collar and super glue them. I use both the vibra tibes and beaver tails. Both are great baits.
