    Default Gas vs Electric trolling

Have always trolled with about a 3 hp gas mtr beside my larger
outboard, and pretty good results, but was wondering if electric
trolling would catch more fish. Just thought someone out there
had tried both and their results.

We use both in combination. 6hp kicker motor to push the boat and a Terrova to steer us. Works great!

use to troll/longline with a gas kicker, way before gps, etc., so it was a shot in the dark, went on the sound/rpm of the kicker and nothing else. now I use a Terrova w/IP
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

You have standard props on those so called kickers or something special?

I just wondered about the speed. I am building my own autopilot for my Jon Boat motor (15hp). I am building compass control from the MK autopilot circuit from my V2. Been sitting around for several years, so it gives me something to do. I don't know crap about trolling. I just got a copilot in on trade, so I will/can steer either the TM or the kicker and both will have autopilot.

Piece of cake. I just get tired of holding that dang throttle stick when trolling.

Electric does everything I need it to do and is much easier on the pocketbook.

Easier on pocketbook is a thought. I generally just sit my 3hp
on cruise, steer it with the steering wheel. The big engine controls
the direction pretty good unless in lots of wind. I've caught lots of
fish with this method, but never gave noise a thought. Just thought
might catch more if used quiter trolling mtr. thanks

I have both but prefer using my kicker motor as I can fish longer and do not have to worry about batteries killing over. And it uses very little gas. I do not see where it causes me to catch less fish, sometimes I feel that it helps. The activity of the motor sometimes activates the fish in my opinion. I fish against lots of people fishing the same areas and I can hold my ground (normally) when it comes to catching them. So to answer your question, I do not think it will help you catch more fish unless you are fishing extremely shallow.

Cane Pole, not sure if mine has a special prop for the kicker motor. I can get some info from it, just know it is extremely low pitch.

    Thanks.
My arm gets tired, especially on a windy day using the tiller, so I am gonna hook up an auto pilot. You can buy a Panther T4 with remote control, but it doesn't have autopilot and it costs 800 bucks. I can rig it for 150-200 range. My labor is cheeeep.
