Black Crappie Tails Missing

I been catching a lot of 17" black crappie the last few days and a large section in the middle of the tails are missing. Anyone else seeing this? I can't imagine what it could be. It's not spawning tails because the outside edges are intact. I caught one that was 18.5" and almost all the tail was gone. The blacks have been hitting pretty gone until this last cold front came through. 14 fow on red and chartreuse tubes with my glow heads. Nobody crappie fishing period. Nice for a change. The redear are gone and I went back to crappie fishing. Sorry no pics of the tails. No camera in my boat and I have been releasing all the big fish. Happy Memorial Day!!

Haven't caught any blacks in a while but did catch some whites Wed. that still had eggs. These were under 11", didn't expect that.
