    Default MK40AP trolling motor

For CP & anyone else care to reply,...will a smaller prop on this motor
give it more thrust? I well know that it is too small when the wind is 15
mph. MK does make a little smaller prop for this motor. You will probably
advise to buy a larger motor, but I would like to check this out before I
    buy a new one.
BTW, my boat is a Pro Deep V 17.

I would think a smaller prop would give you more thrust but reduce your top speed.

I have to agree with shellback.....the small prop will spin faster and generate more thrust, and be less of a drain on your battery. On the other hand, the larger prop will give you more speed, less thrust, but your battery will not last as long due to a heavier amperage draw.

I am no expert but a smaller prop should turn the same rpm as a large prop. There is no change in ratio of gears or anything to change the rpm of the shaft. The smaller blade should lighten the amp draw and increase battery life. The lack of blade surface should also slow down the trolling speed. I would think it would cut back the thrust (torque right?) as well.

You should be able to check the MK website and find out or at least do a contact us and ask someone.

    Good Luck.

If you want more power, you need to increase the pitch, if you have enough motor power to run it. A smaller prop will do opposite what you want. If a pitch increase is not possible, a large prop can do the same thing.

Just to make a point, a smaller prop would be like using a lower gear in a car or truck, a larger prop would would be like a higher gear. If you wanted to get out of a hole or pull a heavier load, would you start out in second gear or first? By more thrust, are you trying to pull a heavier load, or go faster?
