    Default Night Fishing

How about a discussion on various techniques and equipment for night fishing.

I am seriously looking at some options for rigging my boat with removable high beams to illuminate an entire side of the boat. That would eliminate the "lighted bobber" issue.

Fighting bugs won't be nearly as much a problem as the old days before Thermacell.

I used to fish a Coleman lantern hung on a tree.

    How do you do it??

A big 10-4 on the thermacell. Won't go fishing or hunting without one. Was skeptical about them tried it and liked it. Was at Menards one day and found them on sale for 7.00 each Bought 4 and wished I bought them all.

I'll forget my fishing rods before I forget the thermacell. And Rango's article is DEAD-ON! I also use a clamp on light with the reflector and just let the edge of the light from it come into the boat so I can see how to hook a minnow. I fish tightlines and corks and by using the flouresent orange floats you can toss 'em out there pretty far and still see 'em fine from the clamp on light.

Thermacell is a butane powered, very portable, bug chaser. The unit is about the size of the handset on your standard telephone.

Very good on skeeters, gnats and biting flies.

I still need to figure out the lighting setup for my boat! Can you cut the cord off of a 110v light, replace the bulb with a 12v and hook it to a battery?

    Exclamation Thermacell products ......

    http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/category-cordless.html

Thankfully, I don't have a problem with "skeeters" ... they don't like me for some reason But, they do like my two fishing buds. Most of the bugs, that are attracted to our lights (black or white), seem to be of the "non-biting" type ... just aggravating when they swarm around your head. No product, that I've tried so far, has deterred them from coming to the light (or around the occupants of the boat). I may have to turn my fishing buds onto this product, if it works as well as you guys say. .... cp
