sometimes it does....I caught several crappie one spring while bream fishing with meal worms....ya just never know
I was fishing just messing around and i managed to catch a nice slab, i was throwing a live worm 2ft deep in about 5 ft of water and he instantly hit it. This was a first for getting them on worms and that shallow for early summer. So, does this happen often?

Have caught a bunch of crappie on crickets too, used to bream fish a lake all the time with crickets and we usually caught 2 or 3 crappie each time out.

Hey they are oppertunistic feeders. Can't be to picky cause they fall for plastic and feathers all the time. I have seen them feed on tiny bugs hatching on the surface at times.

Caught one on a hot dog once. If the conditions are right I'm sure just about everything looks tasty.
I know this has been talked about before, but after 20 some years of crappie fishing, I caught some crappies on a topwater bait casting for bass. Always wondered if it would work. Gotta agree with Nimrod....opportunistic feeders!
