    Default Explain this to me

Bass pro comes out with a new line of rods. First time they appear in the catalog for 89.99 it says "Was 139.99". When? They are new. Shouldn't you have to sell some at 139 before you claim they are reduced? At least advertise them for 139??

The two loudest sounds are a gun that goes bang when it is supposed to go click and one that goes click when it is supposed to go bang.

I've seen stuff like this before. Here is one example:

    XXT Fly Rods

The speculation I've seen is that they're just trying to make you think you're getting an awesome deal.

I agree, some times it is used as smoke and mirrors. The MSRP is a joke now-a-days.

Creative advertising. New math? Advertising newbie? Sloppy proof reading?
I have been seen at the customer service desk asking questions, at Bass Pro.

As others have said, it's just a marketing technique to make you feel like you're getting a better deal than you really are. It's a very effective technique and a lot of people fall for it. That's why they do it.

Marketing psychology my friend, some can't let something pass by if there are big red letters that spell SALE above something.
