    Default Kansas 'crackers!

These aren't crappie but maybe some of you will enjoy seeing a couple a nice Kansas 'shellcrackers' aka redear sunfish that I found yesterday while sampling.

Have never seen them before. Are they in most Kansas lakes? I would probably confuse them with crappie.

Wow, those are very nice. Where abouts did you find those at? Do you regularly sample this size every year our did these just happen to be found? Would be fun to catch a few of these.

    Bruce,

Redear are only found in some Kansas waters. They prefer deep, clear, weedy water. Only a couple of my lakes have them.

If you were holding a redear in your hand, you could easily distinguish it from a crappie!

    CaptainT16,

These fish were from Cowley State Fishing Lake. Cowley has a good population of larger redear and although density of the larger fish fluctuates from year to year there are always some good fish to be had.

    Blackdog40,

No zebra mussels in the lake in which these fish were sampled.
