Welcome from VA!!:D
Hello all, I'm new to this board and to crappie fishing. I'm thinking of trying it this weekend at Arkabutla. Any tips on what kind of bait to use and where to fish? I'm not looking for anyones honey hole, but just need a general idea of where to throw my line. I know where the spill way is and 51 landing but not much else. I do not have a boat so I'll be fishing from land.(although I don't mind wading) Just need advise on bait they like and depth to fish, bobber or none, hook # ect...
Thanks for any tips and advise!!
Jessica

I use mostly 1/16 oz. jigs trolled with the troll motor around grass and depth changes, or fish brush piles with the same jigs or minnows.
Fish brush piles in deep water....20' deep or so.
Troll around grass and I have been catching fish anywhere from 4' to 14'.
Anything with chartreuse! Attachment 5441
Good luck!

Welcome and good luck Jessica. Nice to have you. I don't do much shoreline fishing, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. 'Course, I believe in minners myself
"Be Ye Fishers of Men" You catch them- He will clean them
Sorry I missed that no boat at first..however maybe you can find a dock/Pier near you. Some people also fish off of a barge or some other type indoor facility on the lake that has a big opening inside to fish through. Maybe you can find something like that.
Ask someone at a tackle store near you and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
For me that type fishing would point me to minnows for bait.
Good Luck!
6lb line, up to 1/8 oz jigs with tubes, and top it with a small minnow. Cast into deep water count to 4 and start reeling in slowly. Stay away from spillways, try the dam side, or bridges, or coves with trees. Crappie fishing doesn't require a float, but to wade fish, I recommend using a slip float.
Just my basic .02, but it seems to work.
