TN Creel Limits...from TWRA rep....

...in response to an inquiry I submitted, here's what TWRA told me: "....we really don't care how many fish you have back home in your freezer..."

...hope this answers some questions I've read on this board...

Sounds like he may have talked with a guy that I heard about this week. A guy told me. After finding out I crappie fished. That a guy had invited them and a bunch more over for a fish fry.
This guy had over 500+ crappie that he had brought back from Big Sandy in 4 days of fishing. Clean a mess and leave them in coolers back in the room. He would go back out and catch his 30 again and do it over and over.
Now is that right?
But look it does not matter how many he has in his freezer right?

Hey pete. We have a double creel limit out of field posession law in Tennessee. If this person would have been caught with that many fish in his motel, the state of Tn would own his boat, line, and sinker.

Tom you can bet if it were me, I would have got caught.
I have no problem with someone having that many in the freezer, If they catch there limit each day and that is it.
But to break the law like that. now that is bad. Also i hope people like that get caught some day.

If it was just HIM ...... he's breaking the law. The law stipulates that "possession in the field" is anything other than your "home". So, if he was running back and forth from the lake to a motel room (or campsite, or other lodging that wasn't his permanent residence) ... then he could have been fined SEVERLY !! By law, his 4day possession limit should have been 60 Crappie ....... PERIOD. To have been legal ... there would have had to have been 8-9 people in his party, and all of them would have to had caught a possession limit of (no more than) 60 Crappie each, over the 4day period. That's the gist of the law for the removal of the fish, for the purpose of taking them home. In his case .... he had already exceeded his "possession limit" while he was still at the lake (in the field). The fact that he got them home and in his freezer .... is irrelevent. To have legally had that many fish in his home freezer ... they would have had to have come from over 8 seperate trips to the lake, from his residence (not from his motel/campsite). ......... cp

Not quite BS. 200 fish in a day is not uncommon around here during spawn. I know from experience. I didn't keep 'em. I just caught 'em.
