Favorite summer time method?

What is your favorite way to seek crappie in the summer? I plan to try spider rigging this fall and winter but am uncertain of summer methods.

i fish farm reservoirs mostly, lots of weeds and coontail moss. spider rigging is out of the question. early in the morning i use one jig pole with a jig/minnow combo and fish around stobs, rotten tree stumps, etc. once the day heats up i use a couple poles with just minnows after i find the fish in the bar ditches (which are always deeper) and hold crappie at around 6-8 feet. hot summer is the best time for me.

What used to be my favorite Summer Crappie fishing method ... was night fishing under Coleman Lantern light, tightlining minnows, boat tied to a tree, fishing about 8-12ft down (over brush). Haven't fished that way for decades, but I may give it a whirl this year.

What has been my favorite Summer Crappie fishing method, in the most recent years, is to be on the lake at daybreak & cast jigs to fallen timber in 8-15ft of water, on shady banks. When the Sunshine gets all over the water above all of my milkrun of deadfalls ... I switch to trolling a crankbait w/18" leader with a jig trailing, for Hybrids & White Bass (& Crappie) .. or put a piece of nightcrawler on a jighead & try for some Bluegill & Shellcrackers in 12-15ft of water (depending on the lake I'm on).

Here I fish structure vertically most of the year. No longer spiderrig at all, but when they suspend on ledges or on shallow flats in hot weather. We drag jigs on our jig poles with one in each hand. I see them suspend in less than 4' of water sometimes in 100+ degree weather here.

Fav Summer method 1 is to fish standing timber in 8 to 10 ft of water. Crappie will usually be 4 to 6 ft. Method #2 is to fish rip rap. I use two jig poles and fish 2 to 6 ft deep in 6 to 8 ft of water. Method #3 is night fishing anchored up over brush. It constantly amazes me how shallow Crappie will be when water temps get into the 90's.
