    Question Flatbottom or V-bottom boat?

Would the V-bottom (or semi-V) be best for larger bodies of water? Someone is looking at trading me their flatbottom boat for my atv I got in a trade. But, I have heard flatbottom boats are not the way to go for fishing any size of water - that they are best to fish rivers or ponds.

What do you guys know about it? LOL

I would stick with the mod v. Have a flat bottom at work, on a 550 acre lake. Beats the snot of you when it's rough. Not that much more stable than a mod v, IMHO.

A mod-v is just a glorified flat bottom in my opinion. I currently own one. I have had a true flat bottom, two glass bass boats, and now a mod-v. Mine is 18' long and actually doesn't ride too bad. It don't ride nothing like my 18.5' Skeeter did. A lot of it is how you drive. If you keep the throttle open and nose directly into the waves it's going to be rough but it you slow down a bit and quarter into or away from the waves it helps a bunch. I mainly fish a 40,000 acre lake and it can get very rough at times and I do just fine. I will say I wouldn't want a boat any smaller than the one I currently own, which is an 1860 Xpress.

My Lund is a v and could not be more happy with it. When its rough a V is the way to go.

^^^ what he said! I have a flatbottom now, my next will be a V hull. And as said earlier, not much difference in a mod v and flatbottom.

What they said.....flat bottoms will ride rough in rough water and modified V's are a little better but not much. A deep V is the way to go for large lakes where the wind can be a problem.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I fish small ponds and lakes with my 12 foot Jon and the main big lakes with my 17 foot Triton Aluminum V bottom. The flat bottom does not do good on big water. My two cents.

I have a deep V also. I love it. But,I wish I had a cheap flat bottom too for shallow rivers. There are places I wouldnt dare take my nice deep V. I think it depends on the area you fish the most.
