Until i began follhowing the current addiction, namely crappie, I used a 1/16 beetle spin with a curl tail, a 1/8 bare head with a 2 or 3 inch white curl tail, and #5 and #7 rapala minnows in floating and sinking models. 6'6" rod with a 2000 series spinning reel with 2 spools, 1 with 4lb and one with 6lb line. The beetle spin is very weedless and the generic spiner blades are at Wally for a buck a pair in 4 different sizes, and most any jig can be slid onto these to offer a different presentation that will go thru most cover and come out the other side. Pitching jigs is now a favorite of mine, both curl and str8 tails. Light tackle is such a blast with whatever hits, just realize that breakoffs are fairly common til you get the hang of controlling the bigger fish. A little more than one, but it will all fit in a very small bag.

The same one I've been using for the last 35 years: a light spinning rig for casting jigs. It's so versatile. It will handle most freshwater fish and even smaller saltwater species.

Mine would be a Wally Marshall spinning combo, 4lb. line with a southern pro spinner jig tied to the end of it...

Specifically a 10' Outlaw Crappie pole, paired with a Shimono Siena reel spooled with 6lb, Flame Green Fireline, tied to a 1/4oz, Green Chartreuse Crappie Pro jighead, rigged with either a Crappie Pro Wasshoppah, or a 2" Yum beavertail that is smeared in Kodiak Paste, and sprayed with The Original Fish Formula's Game Scent. My tribe would always have something to eat fishing with that regardless of where I am at in the USA!

Just one more cast, I promise!

For crappie I like a 7 foot, light power, fast or extra fast action, high modulus rod. 4-6lb coplymer line. Quality spinning reel in the $100-200 range.
Good things come to those who bait.

    Default Mine

BnM 10 ft bucks gold jig pole with a pfluger president xt reel with 10lb fireline crystal. Mr crappie red hook and a single split shot 12inches above and a medium sized minnow. When in doubt this ALWAYS catches a fish.
