Good looking crappie... Why is the lake drained so low?
Blake
Got out for the first real fishing trip of the year today. Stopped by Prospertown Lake for a couple of hours. Now, for those of you that don't know the lake is drained down almost 12 feet and it's been down since the hurricane last year so it's a lot easier to fly fish from the bank due to the low water level, no trees within 100 yards of the water at the dam end.
The fish were very cooperative, I got 6 chain Pickerel (avg around 12"), 2 Crappie (both around 10". One shown below), a 10" large mouth Bass, an 8" yellow Perch, and 2 medium size Bluegills. The fly of the day was a natural Chamois Worm size 10.
If you look close you can see the overflow in the background and that black spot to the left is another fisher just to show how low the lake actually is.
