I'm wanting to put a fish finder on my kayak . I,m thinking about getting a portable model that has a suction cup any advice from other kayakers that have fish finders on there kayaks.
Welcome to the forum.
I had an older unit that had a suction cup mount, and the thing kept falling off. You need a flatish area for decent mounting, and for my yak at the time, it was far underneath the water line. I would have to constantly reach into the water up to my shoulder to reattach it or clear debris off of it. Thru the hull is more convenient, but you do lose some sensitivity. I just fashioned a transducer arm from a flat strip of aluminum that is mounted via a RAM mount that also holds up my FF, so my puck is directly in the water for max sensitivity.
Good luck
