Shimano Stradic 1000?

I am planning on ordering a Shimano Stradic 1000 spinning reel for panfish, crappie, bass. But I am wondering would it work for Channel Cats as well? I have a Abu 6500C3 and I order a Abu 4600C3 for Bass fishing. I just need to round out my set ups with a spinning set up for light stuff.

You'll love the reel, I have a couple and they have held up for a few years, and are as smooth as the day I bought them. The 1000 size is as big as I'll go, I think you could fish with them for bass finese style fishing. I wouldn't put more than 8 lb line on them, all of mine have 4 lb. and cast like a dream. If I were going to buy one stricly for bass fishing, I would go up a size.

I have the Stradic CI4 1000F. Love this reel. Got it spooled with 4# Nan-o-fil. Casts like a dream and is so smooth it's scary. Have landed several bass over 6# with no trouble. Don't think I'd give it a steady diet of channel cats though. I went up to the 3000 for all around bass fishing. It's not much bigger than the 2500 but a whole lot more reel. You can't go wrong with the 1000 for crappie, bream and occasional bass.

Well I use a baitcaster for bass fishing. I order a Abu 4600C3 for that.

I have 2, the 1000FH and the 4000 and they are great reels. You can bass fish with them, I use the 1000 for jighead fishing for spoted bass and they put up a hard fight and with any reel the drag is the most imporant thing. I caught 2 chanel cat about 5# each on 4# test with no trouble.

I have several really old Stradic's (probably from the mid 90's so they have changed a lot since then) and they are still very good reels and I doubt that you will regret buying one.

I love my Stradics. I have a 2500FI, a 2500MgFB, a 1000FJ, and a 1000F Ci4, and they are all fantastic. I plan on picking up a 2500F Ci4 soon as well.

However, if I was going to be catfishing, I would probably use one of the Abus instead of the Stradic. The Stradic could probably handle it just fine, but the 1000 size is just a bit too small for that kind of fishing to me. If you really don't want to use one of the Abus, I'd pick up a cheapo combo of some kind just for the catfish since they really don't require high-end, super sensitive equipment.
