Default Jerry Blake, one more Boo question please?

How long (days) can I cut the bamboo and it still be good to go?

Can I cut and bucket them up and wait as long as a week to sink them or should they go in the next day or two?

    Thanks in advance.....

    Hey Skip:

I've never built any that I didn't sink within a day or two but I don't know why it would be a problem. They will dry out quite a bit in a week, which I guess would make them more buoyant but I don't think that would be a problem as long as you have plenty of weight.

We've cut some and put the butt ends in the lake and they stayed fairly green for several days. If you leave the Quickcrete a couple inches below the top of the bucket you could keep some water in the top of the buckets, which would keep the concrete wet (actually makes it cure stronger oddly enough) and I think that might help keep the bamboo from drying out too much.

Try it and let us know how it works!

How long does the cane or bamboo last before it rots, breaks off or otherwise quits working?

We're still catching fish on bamboo that was put in Lake Greeson over 3-years ago and it still looks good on the graph. It looks like it will last for many years - even the small branches that provide good cover for baitfish and small crappie.

Thanks. I was thinking about making some condo's & was trying to decide on whether I wanted to use cane or bamboo, PVC pipe, or some sort of tree limbs like locust, bois d'arc, or cedar which last a while.
