i sunk some just like those back in jan. and they are still standing up
Anyone have experience with bamboo?
Need to know if this is going to work OK. There is about 6" of concrete in each bucket. A little worried about air trapped inside the boo.
Also will they stand upright without me doing anything else?

6in of concrete in those buckets cant weight 25lbs...with the bouyancy of the cane plus being in the water i bet it wont keep them down...if you hook it with 12lb line i bet you will move it...just my opinion...

I would go ahead and fill the buckets up to within a couple of inches of the top. I have placed some of these in main river channels that get decent amounts of current during high water. They are all still standing there straight up!
They draw fish overnight usually. Be sure to look up Jerry Blake's other method of using cane with 2 concrete blocks tied together.
CATCH A BIG-UN
Thanks guys!
I used 2 bags at 80# each so maybe I will add a little more, but if they get much heavier I am not going to be able to lift them since I have plates and screws in my back. So each one has about 32 pounds of concrete now.
I don't have to worry about current here though since this is a big reservoir, very big.
Hey Skip,
As discussed on here, the cement is only about half of it's orginal weight once in the water. For condo's that tall with that much boo, I would use 80 pounds per bucket...IMO
I agree that you may have trouble sinking them - better add some Quickcrete and get some help handling them. We use 60-pounds of Quickcrete in each five gallon bucket. We've made a couple with too large of bamboo and had to tie bags of rocks to the stalks to get them to sink - NO FUN!
Here's a link to the instructions on how we do them if you're interested - http://www.crappie.com/gr8vb3/showthread.php?t=12162
Thanks for all the help guys. I did go on and put a couple in today and it went well, but I am worried that you guys are right and more is probably the better thing to do. I think mine today was a little more than I thought because the buckets were about 1/2 full of concrete and each had about 6 stalks and most did not have a large O.D.
I have to hope they stay in place if I snag them and that may well be what happens. However today they went down very fast and now I cross my fingers and put more concrete in the others.
Thanks again!
I put about a foot of 1" rock and then put about 6"s of sacrete in my buckets. It holds them down.
