First Time on a lake

Hello everyone,
So quick question for everyone. When you fish a lake for the first time ever what are the indicators that you look for to target and catch good crappie?

Read Al Lindermans...sp... book on crappie fishing. It is for you northern fishermen, but holds true here in the south as well.

From the bank I look for wood near the bank (7' to 10'), from the yak, the same thing.

I look for lights at the water, minnow bucket, and limbs hanging out from beavers. I don't look for people fishing, but if I am fishing a dock and see fish being caught on another dock I might check it out later.

look for down trees along the bank, and if you got a good fishfinder look for stumps,brushpiles, underwater structure in about 8'-15' of water.

First is the time of year that you are fishing. Spring fish should be close to the banks.Summer they will move out to deeper water, along a ledge or brushpile. Fall they move back in to shallow water around brush piles. Winter they will go back to deeper water again. EB

It depends on if you are fishing from a boat or off of a bank!
