Skip down in the tying section is liscensed to make and sell em. I am sure he can make ya whatever ya want. Drop him a pm.
I have always loved the original road runner in Gray. I don't see them at all on their website so I'm guessing they stopped production. Not a big deal as I have several in the box and plenty of heads and gray grub bodies just surprised that more people arn't a fan of a shad colored road runner.
If anyone see them online somewhere drop me a p.m
Thanks

For some reason (I'm guessing eye appeal) gray just doesn't sell well. (This according to a lure designer) It's my go to color in the fall. If you're looking to imitate a baitfish, gray gets as close as close can get.
.
Most of the flashy colors are marketed to attract the fisherman not the fish.
Read the sticky at the top of the tying section on the roadrunners, good info.

Well said. I understand being able to see the bait is key, but I think fish see minnow/shad colored baits pretty well in all depths or they would be hungry or dead.
Anyone know what the original colors of the road runner were? I would like to know what they thought would work the best back then.

Don ... I'm not 100% certain, but I think solid white was the only color, originally. They were also only available in the marabou version. The company started around 1958, but I would have only started noticing "Roadrunners" around the early 70's. Prior to that, I'd have primarily been Crappie fishing with minnows, and occasionally with a 1/8oz Doll Fly.

Best color I've ever used, in a Roadrunner, was solid Chartreuse (marabou), followed closely by "Peacock" (char/teal/char) which is no longer produced. I also cut the tail back about half way from the tip (as it comes in pkg) to the hook bend. It makes a shorter bait, but reduces the amount of nippers & short strikers ... or should I say it turns many of them into "caught" fish.
