    Default Wood Stakebeds

Has anybody out there had any experiences building stakebeds out of ordinary pine lumber. I really would like to know how many seasons I could expect them to hold up.

I normally look for oak but I'm passing up all kinds of pine lumber pieces.

Another question is "What would be the best nails or screws to use to fasten them together?" I would hate for my beds to fall apart because my nails rusted out!

Not sure about the pine lumber. But the way regular hooks are eaten up with rust . I'd look at aluminum nails or even the Stainless Steel Screws or nails used for the new treated lumber. They recomend them for use in the newer treated lumber as the regular ones are eaten away by the salts.
I've been thinking of going and getting a load of Oak or even Cedar slabs from a local saw mill .
Would you be interested in going ang getting a load of slabs ? If we paid anything it would be next to nothing. Usually a mess of fish is all most want for them as it's scrap and has little value.:D

Pine will decay very quick. A couple years at best. PVC is best. Will last
forever,if you are allowed to use it in your state. Wardwood would be next.
Should get several years out of it. I would suggest galvanized nailes or screws.

I use deck screws for my pvc structure, not supposed to rust, however they are not cheap
