Fishing a day and a half with wife on Logan Martin Lake. Perfect spring weather with Dogwood Trees in full bloom. Put boat in at Clear Creek Marina launch. This is the lower end of lake not far from dam. It cost $3 to launch boat and there is a good ramp and parking area. Water level was real low so launching boat a little more difficult. Water clarity good. The water surface temperature was about 70 degrees. The air temperature was about 80 to 85 degrees. The morning was low wind and low wind at end of day but about 15 to 20 and gusting winds during the day. Crappie fishing was good Monday. We caught 65 crappie all total but only 16 keepers. Some fish up against bank but most still out in deeper water. One dock was found were we caught about 30 but most were too small. Another hot spot was found in 12 foot of water around wood post docking a large house boat. We caught a lot in this spot. All these crappie caught up in clear creek. The fish Monday hit much better late in the day.
Tuesday we fish half a day across the lake from the marina. Caught a crappie here and there scattered but then found another hot spot. Fish along piers at the sail boat club. The 3rd post out had brush 12 foot deep and lots of crappie. Caught about 35 crappie in this one spot and 20 were keepers. Had one slab in the 2 pound range. Very windy this day so tied to pier and dropped an anchor. A lot of fish for half a day. Using 4LB high visibility line, slider grubs, colors: JuneBug/Chartreuse, White/Chartreuse, and Black with gold glitter/Chartreuse Tail. Did much better this trip by casting out, taking slack out of line quickly, and then watching line real close. The lure would fall and arch back toward me while falling. This was in deep water so..if the line went slack, or had any movement then set the hook. Most crappie caught by watching the line and then respond quickly. A very good trip. There not all this good. Back home cleaned fish. Wife cooked some and they were great; the rest in the freezer.
