the wife had a card party(bunch-o-women) so i hit the river. i wanted to see if some crappie were in my spot. got all set up and tossed the "REEL-LITE" out on bottom, a few feet out. i usually set a cat rod out or two while probing around from shore. jigged all over the place before dark and caught 2 smaller craps. i thought, cool, it should be good over the light after dark! well dark came and fish were hitting all over the surface. couldnt get a bite on the jig, inspite of the school of minnows it drew in. wasnt long till i found out why. channel cats, and big ones, were in da house. lol first one was a 6#er then another hit while i was unhooking a photographing her. it spooled off plenty of line but dropped it before i could get there.
the next fish was another 6#er then an 8 then a 10! that was the first 45min at dark. they were hitting fast enough i couldnt have run 3 rods if i had them. didnt count them all but guessing i caught or missed 15 cats. the biggest was 12-14# pot bellied female.
the bite slowed enough for me to give up and go home at 11:00.
not what i set out for really but ill take it any day. all fish CPRed.

Sounds like a fun trip. Those channels can put up a good fight. We hardly ever see a channel weighing that much around here anymore. I dont know why either. When I was younger we'd catch 'em going up to 15#'s but 4 or 5 lbs is about as big as we catch anymore. Congrats on your trip.Thumbs Up
I always like to have at least one line on bottom when I'm fishing lights. I've had a couple crappie trips turn into some great catfish trips! WTG RS!
