    Default Crushed rod Fix?

I stepped on the top section of my 12' crappie rod (B & M Graphite) yesterday and want to try to repair it. I can tell the graphite tube on the top section is crushed, but not completely severed. Can I simply epoxy this crushed part, put an "over lay patch" (from another broken rod) and epoxy again over the patch? Any other ingenious iseas on how to salvage this rod?

I believe you can get replacement pieces but I'm not sure where.

Grizzly jig company. I have one I fixed the same way. It is one of my trolling rods and it still catches fish.

On a crushed section I'm not to sure if my method would work but I have had good luck using a sewing needle inserted into the rod lumen and epoxy glue. I find a sewing needle that fits snuggly inside the rod and once it is glued together it is very hard to tell where the break was.

I used to just glue a replacement tip onto the broken rod or just finish breaking up the rest of the rod and discarding it.

A couple weeks ago I told a friend about using a needle to repair broken rod tips and darned if I haven't had to use it myself two times on my last three outtings. Hope me passing this info on here doesn't portend more rod tip misfortune on my part in the near future.

I was really impressed how well this repair method worked on a cleanly broken rod tip and it is almost invisible.

The above postings are correct about being able to order replacment tips from B & M. One thing to consider is ordering a couple three tips since the shipping cost is the same for one or serval tips.

    Good luck in your repairs.

i think you should be able to get a replacement tip for around 15 bucks. i'd save myself the aggravation and spend the money if it were me. good luck whatever you do.

Thanks for the help. I'll have to think about whether buying a new section is worthwhile or not. I have rod-building experience but never tryed a repair like this- therefore I might just try to fix the break for experience sake. Unfortunately the crushed part is in the lower third of the top section, so putting a new tip-top isn't going to work. Thanks again for the tip replacement site.

I have replaced so many tip sections on my Buck's Graphite Jig Poles that I just go ahead and buy a couple each year to have for when I need them. A couple of my Buck's jig Poles are so old that they have the sliding ring reel seats!

Be sure that you order or purchase the correct tip for the length and type of B&M pole you have. Example: Buck's Graphite Jig Pole 11 Foot. I know that the tip sections are different on the 10,11, & 12 foot Buck's Graphite Jig Poles.
