5" Tsunami swim baits, striper fishing.
We hit a series of connected ponds today. Water temps were 47 - 48 degrees. We were actually NOT fishing for crappie; rather, largemouth bass. Tossing Pointer & Bomber hard jerkbaits we caught numerous crappie - nothing huge, for sure. These cranks were between 3 1/2" - 5" in length! I was amazed. Not sure if this is common occurrence for any of you folks or not? Here's a sample of what we caught:
Now just as reference point, normally this early in March, we still have snow on the ground and ice on the ponds! Very warm "spring" - but spring doesn't even start for another week yet! We're going back in a couple of days for sure, this time, armed with appropriate crappie paraphernalia!

Double willowleaf spinnerbait at pomme de terre it was 18in 3 1/2 lbs
Not unusual to catch Crappie while Bass fishing in the Spring here. I have caught them on 3/8 oz spinnerbaits with double # 5 willow leaf blades, That is a big bait .

We catch them all the time on Bill Norman DD-22's that is a sure enough big crank bait. Most of the time we use Bandit 300's though.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Not as big as reported by the others since I don't have that many "big" baits. But last spring I caught a lot on 4" curly tail grubs, dark green with chartruse tail. Those were actually my first crappies. Then I found crappie.com and everyone's talking about 1" curly tails; I thought you guys were crazy.
