kentucky lake crappie

I am going to kentucky lake for the first time in the benton area March 29-April 30 and was wondering about patterns or methods on fishing this area.

The fishing is running 2-3 weeks ahead of a normal spring. I'm going to venture to say the spawn will be going full tilt by then. Pretty much whatever pattern you are most comfortable with would be where I would start. We were longlining today and both my partners were new at the game. Ended up with 16 keepers with probably 4-5 to 1 short fish to every keeper. KY Lake is full of 9+ inch crappie right now and with a 10 inch size limit, folks had better be checking any small fish. The F&W guys are protecting the fishery pretty close and will be checking folks on the water AND at cleaning stations, camp grounds ,etc.

Mr. Cope was out there checking away this weekend Doug. Good to see him out there and I make sure to tell him thanks every time I see him and/or everytime I get checked. Been checked plenty this year. Thumbs Up

Weather forecast is close to 80 everyday into next week...

Mrdux is spot on... The spawn will probably be early this year...

But this is Ky... it's not unheard of to snow on Tater Day...
