Motorguide recalls certain Battery Chargers


MOTORGUIDE MAX PRO II AND MAX PRO III FEDERAL BOAT SAFETY ACT RECALL




Any owner of a MotorGuide Max Pro II or Max Pro III Series battery charger should be aware that it is the subject of a U.S. Federal Boat Safety Act recall. The battery charger models in question may overheat causing a fire or fire hazard, which may cause damage and/or personal injury. (MotorGuide Maxi Series 16 and 26 battery chargers are not included in this recall.)

In order to eliminate the possibility of this condition occurring with your battery charger, an authorized Mercury Marine service dealer will need to replace the unit. A comparable replacement will be issued and installed at no cost to you. Mercury Marine service dealers have been notified of this situation by MotorGuide Service Bulletin 2004-03 which will detail the required replacement procedure.





IF YOU ARE THE OWNER OF A MOTORGUIDE MAX PRO II OR MAX PRO III BATTERY CHARGER, PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:




Immediately discontinue any use of your MotorGuide Max Pro II or Max Pro III Series battery charger. Remove all charging lead connections from the battery charger to your batteries. Do not plug the AC power connection into a power source.
Locate your nearest authorized Mercury Marine service dealer by using the Dealer Locator at www.mercurymarine.com, by checking your local phone directory, or by calling 1-800-MERCURY.
Call your authorized Mercury Marine service dealer to make an appointment for the exchange even if you have not experienced the condition described above.
Deliver your boat to your Mercury Marine service dealer at the scheduled time to have the product exchange completed.
Uninstalled MotorGuide Max Pro Series battery chargers may be exchanged over-the-counter at an authorized Mercury Marine service dealer. Contact your dealer beforehand to ensure a replacement can be offered at the time of your arrival.


WHAT WE WILL DO


We will instruct authorized Mercury Marine service dealers to complete the replacement and submit warranty claims according to MotorGuide Service Bulletin 2004-03.
We will reimburse the dealer for the parts and labor necessary to complete the replacement of the battery charger in your boat according to the service bulletin.
We will reimburse the dealer for the cost of the battery charger and labor for handling any over-the-counter exchanges according to the service bulletin.
