Floating Jighead Question

Does anyone use floating jighead with a soft plastic lure on a Carolina Rig set up for deep water crappies from the bank? What has been your experience?

All I know is that it works! Have used floating jig heads since I learned about them from Bill Binkleman, back in the early 70's. I've used them with live bait, for walleye, mainly, but I don't see why they wouldn't work for crappie either. And nothing wrong with using plastics with them. I use the "walking" type sinkers, even when casting from shore. Unless it's very rocky; then I'll use a bullet weight instead.

Yeah. You get them at Jannsnetcraft or Cabelas. They float your bait off the bottom of the lake. Use a Carolina Rig setup.

Hey Ship, Northland Tackle has some they call Gum Drop Jigs. Even get the with a stinger hook. Work great for Walleye. Use with minnows, leaches, Crappie should hit them.

i've used them as the top hook on an 18" leader, above the weight, on a c'n'c rig last spring while spider rigging. wworked good. white was the best producer for me.

I thought they might work. Got to try something different and see if an old dog can learn a new trick.

i will have to give these a try for crappie, how high do you you let it up off the bottom?

i generally fish my bottom jig/minnow between 10'-14' deep. the floating jig would be 3' or so higher. the reason i started using floating jigs/minnows was to try to keep the top jig from hanging down and tangling.
