    Default bucktails?

I was tying a few bucktail jigs for a walleye tourney in June, and decided to tie a few smaller ones to try out on the local crappie population. the launch at my local fishin hole isn't open yet, so I haven't tried them yet, but was wondering if anybody has had success using small bucktail jigs for crappie. Seems all the crappie jigs I ever see are feathers and chenille.

    So here's the question...
Bucktail jigs for crappie, do they work?

I personally would tie a marabou jig or make a soft plastic lure.

It's all I used last fall. 1/8th head with deer hair. They tore it up! The bucktail, when wet, looks just like a small baitfish. Hair's a pain to work with, but very effective. There were times when I would pinch off the tail of a BG ScentWgl'r and use it as a trailer with it. Caught some really nice fish on it.

Well, I know it works great for smallmouths this time of the year around here; no reason to think it wouldn't work equally as well for crappie. Just never tried it.

Been using them for more than 40 years and it's always a good goto jig. You can also dye the white hair chartreuse or what color you like.

The Clouser Minnow is one of the best flies in the world, and it's just a light bucktail jig.

Been tying bucktail jigs for about 50 years and would not fish with anything else. No reason to. They tie up quickly and easily. One of the best jigs ever to come down the pike was a Thompson Doll Fly, tied like bucktails, except with polar bear hair in yellow or white. That was when I was a teenager.

I tie em, and use them all the time...They have a really nice 'fall' to them, and look great in the water. I add some color to them using a feather or two. also add a little flashabu once in a while.

Here's a bucktail jig with a little bit of red marabou and iridescent flash.
