Default Transducer install using electricians putty

I tested out my transducer install through the hull of kayak using electricians putty that has gotten good results for people online. It didn't work for me so I created a circle with the putty put some water in the putty hole and then the transducer worked. I will be trying it again when I get back out in the water but wanted some input on maybe why I don't get a reading. Seemed easy enough from the youtube clips. banghead

I read something or saw a video of a guy using plumbers putty to mount the ducer inside their yak, and worked good, is semi permanent with the plumbers putty per the article. don't have a yak, so no experience.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
