    Default Alabama Rig for Crappie?

I was watching a bass tournament at Guntersville Lake in Alabama and saw that these gents were fishing with an alabama rig. I'm a little astonished on the size and quantity of fish being caught with this set-up! Has anyone created a rig of this nature for crappie? Would it even work? I saw that the alabama rig was most effective making long casts... Couldn't imagine that you could troll with it? Or maybe you could? Is there anything out there that could be used for crappie?

We have been using them on our lake Greers Ferry this past winter. We make a 3 wire and use lite wire hooks on our jig heads.Greers Ferry is very clear and deep.Has lots of shad they suspend in trees in 30-40' of water. Before useing this rig we would use a single grub on a 1/8 oz jig head we would fish several trees before we found fish.We would cast to the tree and count down to 10 or 15 sometimes getting a bite. Now with the rig we can get over the tree let the rig down into the top of the tree and catch fish we could not have before. We use it as a search bait. Find them with the rig in the top of the tree or brush pile back off the tree cast to them. This rig has allowed us to fish trees or brush piles we would have missed with a single grub or crappie jig.Thats what has worked for us.I fish with some real good crappie fishermen that say this method would not work until we show them they are amazed. Not only more crappie but bigger ones to,It is just another tool it is not for everone and every situation.

Isn't that what "spider rigging" is all about? Neither is allowed in my state.

So why are they illegal? Catch too many fish? If they work, I may buy one.

Some states have number of hook restrictions...

    Each state can be different....

    Check your state regulations...

You can probably get a good start on an answer by posting in your State Forum...(further down the forum list page)..
