    Default "Gettin' my jig on"

Last night started out windy as heck, making me stand in the parking lot at the ramp contemplating just turning around and goin home. Of course, I didn't go home.
I spent the first few hours back in a cove out of most of the wind. Picked up a few there, then went to my spot just before the bridge and anchored up.
The fish were agreeable with my plan to catch em, so I kept a couple minners in the water and started learning to "put my jig on" with another pole. Started out with a chartruese, then went to chart/black. Not to be discouraged I tried a silver/black and BAM. I caught my first fishie on a jig!
I got a couple white bass, one thug and two crappies! I was tickled to finally get something to bite my jig. Danged ole catfish tore it up though and had to put another one on.
I did notice that I got bit much better tipping with a nibble. Don't know if that is what others do, but worked for me.

    I'm smilin' cuz it's workin'!

Now, I just gotta get out in the daytime some and try trollin' :D

Hun, I dont do much casting with Jigs anymore since I Started Trolling BUT I used to cast ALL the time , A few tips to offer you OR anyone that wants to Catch Crappie Casting ,,, Get a Ultra Light Rod 5 foot -5.5 is what i used... then get yourself the Smoothest reel you can find ,,, you will need to be able to feel the bites as well as see the bites, if the reel is jumping & bumping , you cant tell when you have a bite & will miss fish , esp in teh winter time !!!,, Also , use as Light of test line as you are comfy with ,, some use 8 pound test & catch some fish ,,,, the guy that use,s 6 WILL catch fish that the guy using 8 wont !! and so worth down the way ,, SO , if you are comfy using 2-4 pound test ,, you will get more bites than the guy or gal that uses 6-8 pound test ,, IF you have cheap reels with sorry & improper drag systems , you wont land the fish though ... when you start useing 2-4 pound test , you gotta have a good reel with a good drag that does not freeze up ,,, also the lighter jigs seem to work better too ,,

this time of year the craps bite pretty hard, BUT in the winter, they sometimes dont even bite at ALL, they just kinda suck it in,, that when you really need that smooth reel & have to watch the line to tell when you have a bite ,,,,

    ok enough for now \

best of luck to you on your getting jiggy wit it !!

Jigs RULE! I am a jigger all the way. I use the same setup as 42 says to use. Quantum Snap Shots on a 5' ultra light spool holds 4 pound line. I have used this type of rig for about 25 years. I have not used the nibbles but I will give it a try.
