G loomis SJR 700

Thinking about buying G loomis SJR 700 rod just wanted some opinions from everyone. I just bank fish but sometimes durning the spawn I fish out of a boat. I have a 6' bps microlite but I just wanted to know if you guys thought that series of rod was a good choice. I know people are probably tired of this subject but I would like some info before I spend the money. Thanks for your help.

You can not go wrong with G Loomis. I have never fished the SJR 700. However, I have three G-Loomis IMX SR 781's. Great for fishing the 1/32nd and 1/16th oz jigs from a boat. However, if I were fishing mostly from the bank, I think I might go for a longer one piece Rod.

There are times when I need to fish six feet underneath the bobber and the longer rods are best for that. You may also wish to look into the Pheonix Trout Rods. Pheonix makes one piece rods which are much longer than the rod I use.

I have the SJR 700, and it is a great rod. The SJR series is very different from the SR series, though. All the SJR rods have a lot of backbone plus a light tip. The SR rods have less backbone. It just depends on which action you like better. For a pure crappie rod, I'd go with one of the SR models. I have two SR 661's that I like a lot.

The SJR 700 handles light crappie jigs well. I tend to use mine more as a light bass and trout rod.
