    Default unseasonable winter

Will the warm winter that we have had in Georgia have an effect on early spring crappie fishing?

It would be reasonable to assume so. If it continues, it should move the warming of the water temps into the range preferred for spawning a little earlier than normal. Cold fronts & heavy rains can & will extend the timing more towards the normal timeframe.

Fish Allatoona..near Atlanta...water temps yesterday was 56 the fish were moving up on flats for a month or so, the few cool spells had an effect, days with only 2 or 3, good days 50+ with some over 17" long. catching fish trolling on 1/16 heads...10' deep...keeping boat in 25'-17' depth range...trying to stay in areas bait was present....hope that helps...noticed on local forums people were catching fish @ lainer shooting docks...other lakes trolling was already ON!

Here in Ne. it will really affect the spawn. It will be a lot earlier than usual around here, as long as the weather stay like it has been. What would really hurt us is if the weather turn nasty towards the spawn as it did a few years ago with a late freeze. Most lakes around here had a lite layer of ice this year. My lake didn't freeze over at all and just has a slushy skim of ice around the ends of some of the coves. I am going to start looking a month earlier than normal this year. EB

Thanks. Guess I will be keeping up with what the water temps are doing and get ready for the spawning season. Cant hardly wait.
