Just had 300 jigs delivered to me today. (and a package of baby shad stingers in Electric chicken)

50 - 1/64 - ball with collar (all are), regular hook, unpainted (all are)
50 - 1/64 - Sickle hook
50 - 1/32 - regular
50 - 1/32 - sickle
50 - 1/16 - regular
50 - 1/16 - sickle

Think I bought too many? Or, should I just consider myself stocked up for a while? LOL

-The reason for the 1/2 regular hook and 1/2 sickle - never used the sickle hooks before.

Stocked up. You'll get rid of the regular hooks once you use the sickle hooks.

You can never have to many jigheads. I pour that many in a single sitting...but the lakes I fish you will lose alot of heads while fishing.

You should be stocked up fine if you fish a lake without alot of hangups, stumps, etc.

Its nothing to for me to lose a 75-100 heads in a single trip (not always depends on what Lake I'm fishing). I fish alot as well, so I had to invest in jig pouring or I'd be broke. LOL

With all due respect Dutch, did you ever think about weedless jigheads? :yikes

In the humps and stump fields of Eufaula it doesn't matter if its weedless or not...I have used them and gotten hung just about as often.
Thats not every trip, just two of the lakes I fish are that bad, Lake Eufaula and Lake Blackshear

Having too many jig heads is like saying you have too much space in your garage, you never have too many LOL !

How much did it cost though? Gotta buy the lead, molds, melting pot, & hooks. I thought about getting into it, but I was told from someone who did it that he really didnt save any money.

-I also prefer unpainted over painted, so no need to add paint cost

Lee 10lb production pot....Cabelas $55

Do-it molds...2x $33... 1 round head and 1 minnow head mold

Hooks...#6 or #4...Bronze or Gold...$18 for a 1000...Capt. Hooks Discount Warehouse

Lead...free, I get wheel weights, lead ballast, etc. and melt it down. I have close to 200lb of lead in ingots on hand.

Paint... Wal Mart...nothing fancy, I spray a base coat of white or grey and then spray whatever color I want...Black, red, flor. orange, flor. red, flor. yellow, etc.

Total cost...$139

You'll like the sickles for everything except tipping with minnows. The Aberdeens hold a minnow some better cuz of the bigger barb. The hook up with the sickles is waaaay batter.

Pouring my own is the way to go. What you need when you need it, and you can get a few bucks back selling to your friends. You won't retire but it's a good part of the hobby.

I just did the same thing but I ordered 250. All sickle hooks from some guy on eBay. Not sure these guys selling jigs on eBay are making any money while they are inhaling lead fumes.

I'm not convinced that you have bought too many jigs. I think you just have a good start.

None of my friends fish sadly :( So, I fish alone 99/100 :(

I bought 75 (50 round head and 25 round head with roadrunner) from Ron Carpenter (LA Baits; crappie.com sponsor) and in one night I'm almost done with painting and ready to start tying.

This is addictive. I'll probably order more...even though I only lose a jig about once a week (and I fish almost every day). There are a few other crappie fisherman friends on my home lake so I'll give some to them.

I think I need a 12-step withdrawl program.

Loosing 75-100 jigs a trip is unbelieveable! I use to loose a lot until I slowed down and learn to fish a jig properly. I loose a lot less now than I use to. When you can feel what your jig is doing you can manuver it through a brush pile without getting hung up. EB

Kinda hard to "feel" what your jigs are doing when you are long line trolling through a submerged stumpfield with 12 rod's.

Besides its not every trip that I will lose that many, just in certain locations on certain lakes I fish.

nah, that ain't too much.other day i ordered 400 jigheads and some other stuff. 200 1/100 200 1/48.i don't lose hardly jigs at all.when i go fishing i don't only use jigs,im throwing other lures as well.i do have a rod i just throw my jigs with tho,and 2 or 3 other spinning rods with different lures on them along with a fly rod.this year i might bring another fly rod so i can have one with dry fly and another with wet one lol
