Default 30 gal. black trash bags for structure

A man told me sunday that his dad used 30 gal trash bags cutting them into 3in strips all the way around leaving the bottom intack and sink them. The 3 in strips would stand up in the water and crappie would come to them or bait fish. I an't going to be cought trying this. Have any of you heard about this.

Yes , I've heard of folks using them. Just don't understand how they keep from settling to the bottom ?

I think they call this littering here in Arkansas. There is no way a 3 inch peice of trash bag will stay standing up. The lake silt would suck that down quick.

it may work...but i dont think you would want a piece of the bag hanging your lower unit and frying a powerhead...not a very good idea in my opinion...ice bags people throw overboard have been the demise of many engines...

I used the bags back when I was fishing for those green fish. They worked real good but haven`t tryed it on crappie. We would put one shovel of gravel in each then tie in a small ball. The remainder is cut into strips (like a pom pom). If a hood get hung just pull and only one strip comes lose. Worked great for bass, not sure about crappie. It is like an underwater grass bed.

sounds like a fine for throwing trash, would be hard to convince a certain Red headed game warden it was a fish structure..
