I think that would be a great idea, and I like the segregated part.
What do you all think of this?
I'd like to start a project for 2012 and come up with a set of articles about lakes. You all can write articles about the lakes you fish, and I'll send you free stuff for your article. I'll create an index of the lakes for our reference.
I'm also considering that maybe we separate two pieces of the articles, maybe we have general information about the lakes "readable" by the general public. Plus a portion about tips on that specific lake available to only members. I'm not a big advocate of segregating information and not making all information available, but I think it'll help encourage membership.
As far as the articles, here's the info I was thinking we want in each article.
General Public:
lake name and location
lake history, creation, changes, dams
descriptions of different areas of the lake
average depth, deepest depth
general water color/quality
ramps, location, accessibility, accommodations
where to stay, nearby bait shop info
recommended placed to eat
recommended guides (preferrably crappie.com)
Members Only:
when to catch, how to catch (styles used on the lake)
best bait/lures/colors spring/summer/fall/winter
fishing patterns spring/summer/fall/winter
best fishing in the different areas of the lake
Pictures are always welcome and encouraged. Also, pictures of the boat ramps might be cool.
geocoordinates of the discussed spots. I can add links to Google maps that way.
What else can be added to this list? And what are your thoughts about the project.

That sounds great to me, hope to contibute myself.
Who would not want to be a member.Merbership has its priveledges and its a great idea. Will write 1 on reelfoot.
I like the idea myself. Hope to be able to contribute as well.
Good idea Slab. The membership segregation is only right. It's not like there's money involved in becoming a member, only if you choose to. I'll contribute on what I can on lakes I can get enough detail on.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
I like this idea. Sounds like a lot of fun.

Great idea. It would be great to have a chart or googlemaps photo of the lake to give the comments some perspective ("the creek at the north end is very productive during summer..."). For guys like me, a few nearby restaurants is appreciated (I like to eat ). Recommended guides would be helpful (crappie.com members preferred, of course).
I organized something like this for recording microphones (another hobby). The best thing I did was make up a recommended outline. That way all the posts followed the same format and viewers knew where to look for certain information. It's also easier on the writer rather than having to reinvent the wheel.
It would be neat to have it functional like widipedia.com where other people can add to the post.
I can do a couple of local lakes in northern Illinois. They're nothing famous that folks would travel much distance to fish, but you never know when someone is going to be in the area.
