Another trick thats worked for me for years is buy a bag of wheat, about $7 for 50 pounds at a feed and seed store, put about a gallon of wheat in a 5 gallon bucket and add enough water to cover it. Let it set in the sun for about a week. It will stink to high heaven when it ferments. Then the evening before you take the kids fishing, dump the sour wheat in your fishing spot. The cats will swarm the area. My kids thought this was the only way to catfish for years, but they caught boat loads.

your local co-op will have cotton seed meal cake
We used to saw it up and place it on set lines for Buffalo and Catfish. Can't find it anymore , just pellets or meal. We have used wheat but it's expensive and is a mess ! I used sweet feed to bait catfish. It's dry and in pellets, so it's not so smelly. Also cheaper , here it's less than 5.00 per 50 lbs. It's just grain , grain by-products , and molasses formed into pellets. The fish love it. Pour a bag on your favorite catfish hole. I favor a stumpy channel drop right after the spawn. Last year we caught hundreds of them. I put out a bag every day or two on each spot. It helps to put a 1 lb coffee can full every 30 minutes while fishing. This keeps them feeding and moving in.

they mostly sell range cubes now and they work just as good as the cake
just put them in a 5 gallon pail and fill it 3/4 full with water and let it set in the sun a few days to ferment. leave enough room in the pail for expansion.
dont get it in your boat or on you it stinks something awfull
you can use hot water to get it started sooner.
if you can stand the smell keep a little to dip your bait in when fishing
you can buy it at any feed store for about 6 dollars for 50 pounds.
good luck
