    Default Cajun Candy.....try it

Being from south La. I've caught shrimp growing up. Its a universal bait with no equal. When I moved to north La. I discovered that everyone here uses nibblets or others use as they say here "minners". The nibblets melt away or get knocked off as we know so I made my own nibblets and have been doing great here as in sola. My formula: Take a few peeled shrimp and cut them into nibblet sizes. Do this while the shrimp are firm and thawing as they are easier to cut up into these small sizes. Keep them small!! A few shrimp go a long way. Next add a hefty dose of salt and I mean hefty. Next allow them to drain. The salt draws the water out of the shrimp and they start to firm up. I let the shrimp drain overnight. Put them in a sandwhich bag and chunk them in the freezer til the next trip. Tip that jig with a piece and hang on. Add food coloring if you like a particular color. Garlic powder if you want. I like um plain like nature intended and the fish seem to agree. I caught 45 yesterday and everyone around me were using "minners". One gentleman just had to know what I was putting on that hook. I made this "cajun candy" mostly because it stays on the hook for several fish. Most times I change it to keep a fresh piece on. The "candy" is as least as good as the nibblets and the scent is at least as good as the "minners". Try it...Nothing is a majic bait garantee but my candy has proved to be as good as any. Good Luck...SLIP

Hey Slip Cork, I´m from Breaux Bridge and fish Henserson and Bayou Beniot areas. Does your cajun candy work with tube jigs and what color is your favorite?

Hey Boo, I lived in Napoleonville for years and fished the Verret and Atchafalaya Basin. I basically fish tube jigs and tip it with the candy. I also use the solid jigs from Bobby Garland among others. I like any jig with chartruse. Black and char is a sola standard. In nola I also use hair jigs. They work well here. I haven't seen much hair used in south La.. If I had to use 1 tube jig it would be the 1.5" Squirmin Squirt jig from Bass Pro. Its a dull orange and chartruse that looks more yellow in the water. This little jig has produced here as well as anything I've used. Model No. SQ15-67. In the spring in Lake Verret I fished the flooded cypress trees and laydowns with this rig and with the candy there was always a bonus because the catfish would murder this rig so you never know whats gonna happen. Hope this helps...SLIP
