Default How to kill a Crappie

Anyone have a quick way to kill a crappie I keep mine on ice and they are usually still alive when I clean them? I would feel better if they were dead.

went on a catfishing trip with a guy once a while back.. we had about 10 nice cat's and on the way back to the boat ramp the guy took a knife and cut the left gills on each of the fish.... this basicly let the fish bleed out in the live well on the ride back to the ramp.. we then put them on ice.. didn't have to worry about the meat getting all bloody when cleaning them either.

With a fillet knife. Or your hunting rifle, poison, ball bat, run over them with your truck, etc. So putting them on ice is not freezing them to death you might wanna try some Liquid Nitrogen.

Just pack them in ice and go have a cold one and a sammich. Give them enough time to expire and then clean them.

I put mine in a cooler on ice also as I catch them(no live well) and yes when I get to the house some of the last I caught are still alive. I don't see a problem with that and look at it this way, you can leave them in the ice and let them die a slow death or end it quickly with a filet knife

Add a little water in your kooler with your ice, get it real slushie, but loose enough so when the fish goes in the kooler he sinks and the cold water and ice shocks them instant death. when you got it right the gill lock open almost as soon as they hit the water.
