    Default Please help the rookie......

I just started fishing 2 1/2 years ago and was introduced to cat-fishing only. I want to get into crappie and don't have a clue on where to start. Any help will be great. I am totally starting from the beginning and need all the help I can get. Also, I am confined to the bank. I am in MO. in the immediate St Louis area so any help on where to find some fish in the area from the bank will be helpful.

    Thanks in advance
    Chuck

Welcome from Alabama. There is a stickie at the top of this forum "Knots and rig drawings for beginners." That might just help you a little.

    Welcome.
I highly recommend the Crappie series of books by the Lindner brothers, In-Fisherman. Its a series of 3 books. They go over everything from fish natural instincts, how to fish for them, and more importantly where to fish for them for each type of body of water, and the time of the year, the fish year. From there you will be able to figure out on the bodies of water around you where to fish.

I also highly recommend your local Department of Natural Resources. They have stocking programs, fish tips, and a whole slew of other topics revolving around fishing in your area. Don't overlook the Mississippi River, especially the backwaters.

You also came to the right place, read the other topics on this site. Some very knowledgeable people who are willing to point you in teh right direction. Your still going to have to do the leg work, its the only way to appreciate the sport of Crappie Fishing. After all, give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime.

Quick, someone teach me how to fish so I can win this tournament!!!
