Can I suggest trolling with braid, high strength, low diameter, less drag, and almost no stretch, and easier to pull loose snags when they happen.

I troll with high vis 10lb mono for the vast bulk of my trolling with crankbaits or will go to 10lb original Fireline if I need to get down anywhere from 25-40' or if I m pulling planer boards. I experimented with the Sufix 832 braid in blaze orange last summer and would chose it if I was longlining with light jigs as it was very supple.

I'd opt for the Fireline, but in the lower tests sizes; i.e.: 4# or 6# test. Also, get it in the "Crystal" white color. Easy to see, extremely strong and no stretch. Myself, I use a 2#, 4#, or 5# test monofilament leader. Not for wanting to reduce visibility at the business end, but rather to act as a mini shock absorber in case one of those 17" crappie hit! :D

As far as hook size goes, #6 or #4, depending on jig weight. And why a 1/28 oz.? Do you really think a crappie will know the difference between a 1/32 oz. and a 1/16 oz. jig?

I use 10/2 power pro line and I also have 1/24 oz heads, but not 1/28. However if the weight is important it may help to know hardly ever do jig heads really weigh what they say!
