crappie bites

Today I ran into something interesting. Whent fishing supposedly ahead of a front (stalled) and could not catch s decent perch enen on cold worms. I add a couple of crappie bites (bits?) from berkley and started catching bream immediatly. Caught a few then switched to straight crappie bites (white) and caught several. First time I have ever had something out fish live bait.

I've never tried the white ones, but I have caught em on chartreuse and also on the floating orange trout nuggets.

I've never really tried them while only bream fishing. But while crappie fishing with a tube jig and white nibble, them bream won't leave it alone. They don't do it nearly as bad without the nibble.

you used a crappie nibble on a bare hook? i always use them on a jig or small spoon.

brim will attack a bare #10 or smaller hook baited with a chartreuse crappie nibble if they are anywhere near the bait when it hits the water. Bluegills is what we call brim here and they and a lot of the other sunfish love the taste of crappie nibbles.

I myself am a firm believe in the use of attractants to catch fish.

I stated out using liver for catfish and then found out about Dr. Juice back in the early 1980's. He started the use of attractants from what I can see. But I would be that some North American Indians would argue with me on this point. I'll bet they used and knew about the importance of scents long before the Dr did his research.

The crappie nibbles smell way worst than the cold worms that I started out with so maybe it is a scent thang.

I have had similar results with crappie nibbles this year. Accidently ran into some bream while crappie fishing the shallows and ended up getting more hits by bream than crappie.
It seems that more that just crappie like to nibble them.
