    Default crappie spawning question

I'm sure most of you know when you go to take a male bream off the hook when you squeeze him he urinates. Do male crappie do that too? If not, how can you tell the difference between male and female? I caught 2 crappie out of a friend's pond that didn't seem to have an egg sack but when I filleted them they both had an egg sack. Thanks alot.

During the spawn the male crappie will generally be black and the bottom of their tail will be raw or missing from fanning the bed. The female on the other hand will have a bulge in their stomach and usually you can see the yellow eggs about to come out. If the fish has already spawned then all bets are off; however often times the female is larger than the male.
